Mud Jeans restarts under new ownership

Dutch sustainable clothing brand Mud Jeans has successfully restarted following its bankruptcy earlier this summer. The company was acquired by N5 Holding, owned by entrepreneur Nick de Ronde Bresser, and Horizon Capital.

The acquisition cost a total of 255,000 euros, covering brand rights (120,000 euros), inventory (75,000 euros), domain names (30,000 euros), and goodwill (30,000 euros). Operations are continuing under the newly formed entity Mud Jeans B.V., and the brand's webshop has been brought back online.

The bankruptcy was driven by a heavy debt burden and liquidity shortages. According to the bankruptcy trustee, lower-than-expected demand due to unseasonably warm weather, late payments from a major customer, and unexpected insurance and pension assessments contributed to the financial crisis. In 2023, the company reported a turnover of approximately 2.5 million euros with a loss of 950,000 euros; losses increased to over 1 million euros the following year. Total claims from creditors amounted to approximately 2.8 million euros.
