Mudeungsan Geomarathon to be held on October 10

The 5th Mudeungsan Geomarathon will be held on October 10 to celebrate the second re-certification of the Mudeungsan UNESCO Global Geopark. Organized by Gwangju Metropolitan City in collaboration with Damyang and Hwasun counties, the event expects approximately 1,650 participants.

The race course begins at the Kumho Hwasun Spa Resort parking lot, proceeds through Damyang's Gasa Literature-myeon, and returns via Hwasun's Dagok Junction. Participants can choose from five categories: 30km, half-marathon, 10km, 5.18km, and a 2km walking course. The walking course includes guided tours of the Seoyu-ri dinosaur fossil site.

To promote the geopark, various experiential booths will offer activities such as geological puzzle making, keychain crafting, and local product promotion. The event will also feature a collaboration with the Cheongsong UNESCO Global Geopark to share information regarding fossil sites. The opening ceremony will include a ceremony celebrating the 100th day of the integrated metropolitan city's launch.
