Mufti Ahmed Qablan urges national consensus in letter to President Aoun
Shiite Mufti Sheikh Ahmed Qablan has issued an open letter to President Joseph Aoun, warning of the grave dangers facing Lebanon amidst regional instability. Qablan emphasized that Lebanon’s national identity is complex and resistant to external pressures, asserting that neither Washington nor Tel Aviv can absorb the country.
Qablan argued that the solution to Lebanon’s crises lies in respecting the country’s national composition and adopting a consensus-based political formula. He warned against falling into sectarian strife and accused certain executive actions of targeting the Shiite community, which he described as a sovereign force that has historically protected Lebanon from secessionist projects and Israeli occupation.
The Mufti urged the protection of the interests of sovereign Lebanese families rather than allowing sectarian strangulation, stressing that the country must rely on its own national strength rather than international dictates.
