Muggiò Municipality issues alert over phishing emails
The Municipality of Muggiò has issued an alert to residents following a wave of fraudulent emails designed to mimic official communications. The phishing attempts specifically impersonate a tax service official and include references to Banca Popolare di Milano.
These deceptive messages instruct recipients to click a link to verify a bank payment. Authorities warn that the emails may contain malicious attachments or links intended to facilitate cyber fraud or the theft of personal data. In addition to the phishing campaign, the municipality reported a potential hacking attempt against the local government entity.
In response, the municipality is seeking to strengthen its prevention measures through the ‘Scansa la truffa’ project, developed by local police commander Marco Beccalli. This initiative is part of a collaboration with the Lombardy Region aimed at combating organized and common crime. The municipality is currently awaiting approval for regional funding to implement these security and awareness programs.
