Muggiò rejects private sports complex project, sets 25 million euro limit
The Municipality of Muggiò has rejected a private proposal for the construction of a new swimming pool and sports complex. While technical and architectural reviews of the project were positive, municipal officials cited economic and contractual criticalities that prevented it from meeting public-private partnership standards.
In response, the administration led by Mayor Alessandro Rapinese has announced a new plan. This revised approach will involve a new tender for economic operators, with a maximum public contribution capped at 25 million euros. The new projects must also comply with Eurostat guidelines to ensure they can be accounted for off-balance sheet.
The decision has drawn sharp criticism from political opponents. Davide Gervasoni of Forza Italia noted that the swimming pool has been closed since 2019 and criticized the Mayor for revoking a previous 2021 project approved by the Landriscina administration. Critics argue that despite promises made in 2022 to reopen the facility within months, the project has stalled, leaving the community without essential sports infrastructure.
