Mugur Isărescu urges political compromise to resolve crisis

Mugur Isărescu, the Governor of the National Bank of Romania, has called for political parties within the former coalition to return to the negotiating table to resolve the current political crisis. Speaking at a conference regarding the Inflation Report, Isărescu emphasized that politics is ‘the art of compromise’ and urged leaders to make necessary concessions to ensure national progress.

He advised that while disagreements and arguments are normal within negotiation rooms, political disputes should be kept private. He noted that public bickering is ‘useless’ and serves no party. Isărescu highlighted that international investors, rating agencies, the European Commission, and international financial institutions require clarity regarding the country’s future direction.

These comments follow previous scrutiny from the National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives (CNSAS), which had accused Isărescu of being an informant under the code name ‘Manole’ between 1979 and 1989. However, legal efforts to re-verify such cases were previously blocked by a Constitutional Court ruling.
