Muhaimin Iskandar calls for strengthening Indonesia's JKN program
Muhaimin Iskandar, Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, has emphasized the need to strengthen the National Health Insurance (JKN) program to serve as a social safety net. Speaking at the 2026 National Health Facility Meeting and Seva Paramitha Awards in Jakarta, he stated that JKN must protect citizens from falling into poverty due to medical expenses.
Iskandar noted that JKN coverage has reached 284 million people, representing 98.02 percent of the population, with an active participation rate of 79.20 percent. He described the program as a ‘giant form of mutual cooperation’ (gotong royong raksasa) for the nation.
Beyond increasing membership, the Minister stressed that the government must focus on the quality and equitable distribution of healthcare services. He highlighted that health facilities are the ‘face of JKN’ and must provide services that are easy, fast, safe, high-quality, and dignified to maintain public trust and ensure all participants receive equal treatment.
