Muhaimin Iskandar inaugurates Malang Migrant Center

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, A. Muhaimin Iskandar, inaugurated the Malang Migrant Center in Malang Regency, East Java, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. During the event, the Minister emphasized the urgent need to strengthen insurance protections for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).

Muhaimin called for comprehensive synergy between BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and professional domestic and international insurance companies. He noted that while BPJS Ketenagakerjaan provides social insurance, collaboration with professional insurers is necessary to cover specific occupational risks and professional protection needs that current social schemes may not fully reach.

The Minister highlighted that robust insurance is a fundamental right for workers, covering the period from pre-departure to their time in host countries. He mentioned that these discussions regarding insurance collaboration were also raised during a recent working visit to Japan. Strengthening Government-to-Government (G2G) cooperation is also viewed as essential to ensure legal certainty and rights protection in high-demand labor markets such as Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore.
