Muhaimin Iskandar promotes art for psychosocial recovery of disaster-affected children

Muhaimin Iskandar, the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, highlighted the role of painting in the psychosocial recovery of 200 children affected by disasters in Aceh Tamiang and Pariaman. During an exhibition opening in Jakarta on September 29, 2026, the Minister emphasized that post-disaster recovery must extend beyond repairing physical infrastructure like homes and public facilities.

Iskandar noted that children require safe spaces to process traumatic experiences, express emotions, and rebuild self-confidence through creative outlets. He stated that art allows children to transform difficult experiences into meaningful works. Furthermore, the Minister suggested that fostering these creative talents could eventually integrate these children into Indonesia’s creative economy, providing long-term empowerment and economic potential.
