Muhamad Akmal Saleh's representation request rejected in upside-down flag case

The Penang State Prosecution Director has rejected a representation request by Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to drop charges related to statements made regarding an incident involving an upside-down Malaysian flag.

Following the decision at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate Court, Akmal's legal team, led by Aizat Azam, announced plans to submit a second representation to the Attorney General. This second attempt aims to present specific facts and legal arguments regarding the case. The defense has also filed a judicial review application against the Attorney General concerning their jurisdiction in prosecuting the case.

Akmal, the UMNO Youth Chief, expressed his intention to remain resilient despite the legal proceedings. He noted that while the case has been ongoing for over a year, a trial date has not yet been set. He also raised concerns on social media regarding the fact that the individual who originally flew the flag upside-down has not yet been charged.
