Muhamed Zeqiri sentenced to 1 year and 7 months in prison
The Court of Appeals has sentenced former Government Secretary Muhamed Zeqiri to one year and seven months in prison for abuse of office. The conviction stems from the awarding of consultancy contracts for analyzing the potential privatization of North Macedonia's postal and railway services without following public procurement procedures.
According to the prosecution, these contracts caused state budget damages exceeding 1.1 million euros. While the court ordered the confiscation of assets from the contracting company, Interholding, it did not order similar confiscation against Zeqiri. Zeqiri maintains the right to appeal to the Supreme Court within eight days.
