Muhammed Lamin Dibba launches migration policy memoir in Geneva

Gambian author and migration specialist Muhammed Lamin Dibba has launched his policy memoir, ‘Inside the System: Migration, Fatherhood, and the Cost of Silence’, at the Geneva Graduate Institute in Switzerland.

Co-organized by the Permanent Mission of The Gambia to Switzerland, the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and the Geneva Graduate Institute’s Global Migration Centre, the event focused on the theme ‘Bridging the Gap’. The launch brought together diplomats, academics, and diaspora leaders to discuss migration governance and the impact of European migration frameworks on family life.

Dibba, who founded the Institute for Governance, Development, Migration and Mobility (IGDMM), described the work as a blend of personal experience and policy critique. He highlighted the concept of ‘administrative silence’, noting that institutional delays often have profound human consequences. Dibba argued that ‘administrative time is not the same as human time’, explaining that processing delays can negatively affect employment, income, and psychological stability for those navigating bureaucratic systems.
