Muhammet Dilmaç's Villa Rises Over Road in Rize, Turkey

Muhammet Dilmaç, a resident of Büyükköy in the Çayeli district of Rize Province, built a four‑plus‑one wooden villa on top of six concrete columns that rise 7.5 metres above a public road. The structure was designed to keep the existing road open for traffic, allowing trucks and even concrete mixers to pass beneath the house.

Dilmaç explained that the steep, land‑scarce terrain of the Eastern Black Sea region left no flat plot for a conventional home, so he raised the foundations and constructed the columns to avoid blocking the road used by neighbours. The upper floor covers about 100 square metres, and his wife Kezban Dilmaç said the high, airy design has attracted many visitors and photo‑opportunities.
