Muharrem İnce and DEVA Party exchange criticism over economic management
Muharrem İnce has criticized Ali Babacan, leader of the DEVA Party, regarding his past tenure in economic management. İnce argued that while Babacan was portrayed as an expert, he lacked formal economic education and bureaucratic experience when taking office. İnce further claimed that Babacan primarily implemented existing programs, such as those prepared by Kemal Derviş, rather than initiating structural transformations to address Turkey’s chronic issues like the current account deficit and external debt dependency.
In response, DEVA Party Vice Chairman Mehmet Emin Ekmen challenged İnce’s criticisms by questioning İnce’s own political legacy. Ekmen asked what concrete contributions İnce has made to the Turkish state and nation throughout his career, shifting the debate from economic policy to İnce’s personal political record.
