Muhittin İlhan recounts torture during 1980 coup era
Muhittin İlhan, a victim of the September 12, 1980, military coup in Turkey, has shared his experiences regarding the torture and detention he faced. İlhan, who served as the Kahramanmaraş provincial head of Ülkü Ocakları between 1977 and 1978, detailed the severe physical abuse he endured while in custody.
He reported that during his 105 days in Mamak Prison, his weight dropped from 65 kilograms to 41 kilograms due to torture. İlhan stated that officials pressured detainees to confess to unsolved crimes to validate public reports made by the then-Minister of Interior, İrfan Özaydınlı. He described a period of intense interrogation and physical violence used to force admissions of guilt.
