Muhsin Mete, prominent Turkish media and culture figure, dies at 77

Muhsin Mete, a prominent figure in Turkish culture, publishing, and media, has passed away at the age of 77 following serious health issues.

Mete had a distinguished career at TRT, where he served for over 30 years in various high-level roles, including Deputy Director General for Broadcasting and Programming between 2005 and 2008. He was well known for producing numerous documentaries and cultural programs, such as ‘Dünden Bugüne Ahilik’, which received awards from the Turkish National Culture Foundation.

Beyond broadcasting, Mete was a significant contributor to the literary world. He held leadership positions within the Turkish Writers Association (Türkiye Yazarlar Birliği), serving as Deputy Secretary General and Secretary General. He was also a recipient of the association’s 2025 ‘Vefa Award’ for his lifelong contributions to culture and publishing.

A dedicated advocate for the Turkish language, Mete donated a collection of over 10,000 books and magazines to the Presidential Library. He was recognized for his intellectual work and his commitment to preserving linguistic integrity through his writing and media productions.
