MUI advances anti‑LGSP bill to protect moral values in Indonesia
The Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) has drafted a new Anti‑LGSP law, where LGSP stands for Lesbian, Gay, Sodomi and Pencabulan. The proposal is intended to act as a legal “moral shield” for the nation, strengthening family resilience, safeguarding youth and upholding religious and cultural norms.
MUI officials say the academic paper and draft bill will be submitted to the Indonesian parliament (DPR) and the government in the near future. Alongside legislative action, the organization stresses the role of education, family counseling and dakwah in building societal character. The draft clarifies that it is not meant to legitimize discrimination, but to provide guidance for social order while respecting human dignity.
The proposal remains at the conceptual stage and will require further deliberation under Indonesia’s legislative process before any law can be enacted.
