Muir Building opens at Kineton in honor of fallen bomb expert

A new £14 million accommodation block has opened at Defence Munitions Kineton in Warwickshire. Named the Muir Building, the facility honors Staff Sergeant Chris Muir, an ammunition technician and instructor who was killed during an explosive ordnance disposal operation in Iraq in 2003.

Ben Muir, the son of Staff Sergeant Chris Muir, officially opened the building alongside family members and former colleagues. The 46-bedroom block provides ensuite accommodations for officers and senior non-commissioned officers, featuring kitchenettes, communal areas, laundry facilities, and a cycle store. The building incorporates sustainable features such as air source heat pumps and roof-mounted solar panels.

The project was led by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and utilized modular construction techniques. Units were manufactured off-site by Algeco and then transported to Kineton for assembly, a method intended to reduce disruption at the base while replacing aging infrastructure.
