Mujeres que cuentan international theater festival celebrates 12th edition
The 12th edition of ‘Mujeres que cuentan’, an international theater showcase organized by La Teatrería de Ábrego in Oruña de Piélagos, is currently underway. The festival features productions from Mexico, Albania, Ukraine, Italy, Japan, Castilla y León, and Catalonia, focusing on themes such as female memory, migration, identity, and grief.
Festival director Pati Domenech noted that the event has become a consolidated project despite limited institutional support. The programming aims to provide a platform for international creators while offering regional theater opportunities for broader projection. Recent performances include ‘Las Olvidadas’ from Mexico, which honors women in exile and those deprived of rights, and ‘El pastor que miraba las estrellas’ by Popy Vegas, which explores migration and survival through autobiographical memory.
Upcoming performances include ‘Burrneshas’ from a Milan-based company, which examines Albanian rural traditions regarding gender roles.
