Mukhtarudin marks one year leading Indonesia's migrant worker protection ministry

Marking one year since his appointment by President Prabowo Subianto, Mukhtarudin, the Minister of Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI), has focused on strengthening the governance and protection of Indonesian migrant workers. The ministry’s strategy emphasizes an integrated ecosystem of protection that spans from the workers' home regions through the recruitment and placement process, their employment in host countries, and their eventual return and empowerment.

A primary objective of the ministry is to prevent non-procedural departures and reduce the risks of human trafficking. To achieve this, the ministry has increased synergy with the Indonesian National Police (Polri), including the establishment of a special desk to handle migrant worker cases with greater precision. Mukhtarudin stated that the government must be present from before departure until workers return to their homeland to ensure they achieve a better quality of life.
