A modern irrigation initiative in Muğla, Turkey, led by the Muğla Governor’s Office, is converting open irrigation canals into closed‑system pipelines. To date, 20,000 metres of pipe have been installed with the cooperation of the Muğla Agricultural and Forestry Directorate, the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), municipalities, village heads and local farmers.

The project was selected as a world finalist in the Social and Regional Development category of the IPMA Global Project Excellence Awards 2026, competing with entries from Belgium and Morocco. The award ceremony will be held on 18 September 2026 in Hiroshima, Japan. Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık praised the collaborative effort, noting its contribution to rural development and water conservation.
