Muğla Governorship warns of legal action over cigarette butts

The Muğla Governorship has issued a warning regarding forest fire risks, emphasizing that small acts of negligence can lead to irreversible damage to forests and wildlife. Under the slogan “Let our future and our forests not be destroyed by a single spark,” authorities are highlighting the danger posed by cigarette butts thrown from vehicles or along roadsides.

Legal consequences for violators include administrative fines and 10 penalty points on driver's licenses under the Highway Traffic Law. Furthermore, according to the Forest Law, discarding unextinguished cigarette butts in or near forested areas constitutes a crime even if a fire does not occur, which can trigger judicial proceedings.

Law enforcement and inspection teams are conducting 24/7 monitoring throughout Muğla to protect the region. Citizens are urged to report suspicious activities via the 112 Emergency Call Center or the Hayat112 application.
