Muğla Metropolitan Municipality seeks legal intervention in violence against women cases
The Muğla Metropolitan Municipality is attempting to take a formal role in legal proceedings involving violence against women. Under the leadership of Mayor Ahmet Aras, the municipality's Department of Women and Family Services is requesting to intervene as a party in court cases to support women's access to justice.
The municipality previously became the first local government to request intervention in the 2024 femicide case of İlknur Çetin, a request that was rejected by the court but subsequently appealed. More recently, the municipality sought to intervene in the case of Hatice Katrancı, who was victims of an armed attack in Fethiye. During the second hearing on September 22, Dr. Özge Demirel, Head of the Department of Women and Family Services, attended the proceedings, though the court again denied the municipality's request for intervention.
