Muğla, Turkey: Lawsuit filed after square cleaned with vinegar following Kurdish rally

The pro-Kurdish Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) has filed a lawsuit against local officials of the Islamist New Welfare Party (YRP) in Muğla, Turkey. The legal action follows an order to clean the Apanatos Square in the Mendes district with vinegar and soap after a DEM gathering.

The rally held at the square had called for the release of Abdullah Öcalan. Fatih Kotzabigik, president of the local YRP branch, stated that he ordered the organization to wash the area with vinegar water and Arabic soap for forty days to ensure it was cleaned.

DEM Member of Parliament Pervin Buldan condemned the act as racist, stating that the dignity of the Kurdish people is not defiled by vinegar. In response to the backlash, YRP spokesperson Suat Kilit disavowed the action, clarifying that it was an isolated initiative by a local official rather than an official position of the party.
