London Fashion Week features McQueen and Mulberry homecomings

London Fashion Week SS27 featured major homecomings for two iconic British brands. Alexander McQueen returned to the London schedule for the first time in 25 years, moving away from its long-standing presence in Paris. Under creative director Seán McGirr, the Spring/Summer 2027 collection was staged in a subterranean chapel in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, blending religious imagery with London's underground rave culture through the use of lace, corsets, and metallic accessories by Shaun Leane.

Mulberry also marked a significant return to the runway after a six-year absence, debuting its new collection under creative director Christopher Kane. The collection emphasized the brand's leather heritage, featuring structured silhouettes and reimagined versions of the iconic Bayswater bag. Kane's vision included new accessories like the ‘Axe’ and ‘Chop’ bags, drawing inspiration from the brand's Somerset roots.

Other notable highlights included Simone Rocha's romantic designs and Burberry's star-studded show, which celebrated the brand's 170th anniversary with designs by Daniel Lee. The week was characterized by a focus on British identity, craftsmanship, and a shift toward more experimental, subcultural aesthetics.
