Mulegé authorities commemorate 179th anniversary of historic defense

Authorities in Baja California Sur held a solemn session to commemorate the 179th anniversary of the defense of Heroica Mulegé. The event honored the historical significance of the 1847 battle, which occurred during the war between Mexico and the United States.

During the ceremony, officials remembered Captain Manuel Pineda, who led approximately 60 men in a successful defense of the region against American forces. This event is noted as one of the few Mexican victories during that conflict.

Local Deputy Teresita Valentín Vázquez emphasized that the Mulegé region should be a constant consideration in the state's public decision-making processes. She argued that the area's historical and economic contributions should be met with improved infrastructure, services, and opportunities for its residents. The commemoration included the participation of the Governor of Baja California Sur, Víctor Castro Cosío, and the Mayor of Mulegé, Edith Aguilar Villavicencio.
