Multi-marketplace operations create technical costs for sellers
Operating across multiple marketplaces simultaneously creates significant invisible technical costs for sellers due to the need to maintain various technical integrations. Each sales channel operates with its own unique standards, rules, and update rhythms.
In the dropshipping model, where sellers do not hold their own stock, these integration challenges are amplified. Dependence on suppliers for shipping means that a failure in technical synchronization can lead to outdated stock levels, unsynchronized orders, or ads going offline, often only discovered after a sale is lost or completed without available product.
According to research from the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), less than half of small businesses (47%) used integrated management software or applications in 2025. Matheus Lobo, CTO of the dropshipping platform Dogama, notes that the primary invisible cost is time, as each marketplace utilizes its own application programming interface (API) that requires constant maintenance.
