Multiple collisions disrupt Germany's A5 motorway near Hagsfeld

Between July 10 and July 13 2026 a series of accidents severely affected the A5 near Hagsfeld, Germany. An initial crash involving two trucks released large quantities of diesel and hydraulic oil onto the road, prompting an environmental response by the Karlsruhe fire department. Subsequent incidents included a rear‑end collision with a Sprinter that injured four occupants, a later impact that trapped a 65‑year‑old truck driver in his cab, and a separate collision between a truck and a crane‑truck. The accidents caused road closures, detours via the Bruchsal exit, and required extensive cleanup and investigation by police, fire services, and the environmental agency. Injuries ranged from severe to light; no fatalities were reported. The total material damage was estimated at tens of thousands of euros, and the incident highlighted the importance of safe speed, proper load distribution, and adherence to traffic rules for vehicles pulling trailers.
