MultiChoice restructures DStv packages in Ghana and Kenya

MultiChoice is implementing significant pricing and package restructures for its DStv service in Ghana and Kenya, effective November 5, 2026.

In Ghana, Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George announced new subscription tiers designed to combat television piracy. The government aims to make legal content more affordable to discourage the use of illegal streaming devices, known as “ghost boxes.” Proposed packages include options at GH¢50 and GH¢100 per month, with a GH¢250 package offering sports and entertainment. These measures are subject to clearance from the Attorney-General and involve collaboration with the Cyber Security Authority and the National Communications Authority.

In Kenya, MultiChoice is reducing its bouquet lineup from six packages to four: Starter (Sh750), Select (Sh1,500), Sports (Sh3,000), and Ultimate (Sh7,300). The restructuring, described by MultiChoice Kenya CEO Nzola Miranda as a comprehensive portfolio review, aims to reach a broader mass market. The Ultimate package is approximately 38 percent cheaper than the previous top-tier offering. The new tiers will also be available via the DStv Stream app.
