Multilateral development banks strengthen financial stability and mineral supply chain support

A new report from the Global Risk and Finance Forum (GRaFF) indicates that major multilateral development banks (MDBs) maintain strong financial stability despite global economic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions. The 2026 comparison report shows these institutions have accumulated approximately US$424 billion in equity capital and are utilizing innovative capital management and risk-transfer mechanisms to expand their development impact.

In a separate strategic move, several major MDBs—including the World Bank, African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, and Inter-American Development Bank—have outlined a collaboration framework to support critical mineral value chains. This initiative aims to help mineral-rich developing economies move beyond simple extraction toward processing, refining, and manufacturing.

The framework focuses on coordinated support for infrastructure, financing, and policy to boost domestic value addition, attract private investment, and support the low-carbon transition. An MDB working group will oversee the implementation of these objectives and provide annual progress reports.
