Multinationals remit USD 3.4 billion in dividends from Argentina

Multinational corporations have remitted USD 3.4 billion in dividends to their foreign headquarters so far in 2026, marking the highest level in 15 years. According to Santiago Bausili, president of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA), this figure is the largest since 2011.

The surge follows the relaxation of exchange controls, which allowed companies to distribute profits declared in 2025. This measure has helped clear much of the stock of profits that had been held back due to previous currency restrictions. The oil and gas sector and financial institutions were the primary drivers, together accounting for approximately 40% of the total volume, with oil and gas alone representing USD 811 million.

Economic analysts suggest that the absorption of these accumulated profits reduces pressure on the foreign exchange market by decreasing the amount of local currency held by companies waiting to be converted into dollars. BCRA officials expect dividend flows to adopt a more normalized pattern for the remainder of the year and into the next period.
