East Africa reports multiple fatal drownings and lightning strikes
Multiple fatal accidents involving water and weather have been reported across East Africa. In Tanzania, a 14-year-old boy named Yasri Hamisi is feared dead after slipping into the Mambi River in Mtwara. Local residents and rescue teams have been searching for him near the area where the river meets the Indian Ocean.
In Kenya, a 19-year-old man, Elisha Mwadime, drowned in a swimming pool at an apartment complex in Nairobi. Separately, in Kakamega County, two cousins aged 7 and 10 drowned while bathing in the Lusumu River. In Homa Homa Bay County, a 16-year-old boy is missing after a boat carrying three juveniles capsized near Jackpot Beach on Lake Victoria.
In Uganda, lightning strikes in the Kiryandongo District killed three children, aged five to seven, after lightning hit a house in Kikunya Village. This follows a pattern of increasing lightning-related incidents in the region, which has previously prompted authorities to consider relocating local school facilities due to safety concerns.
