Sangareddy: Six students drown during Ganesh idol immersion

Six students drowned in a lake during a Ganesh idol immersion ceremony in Peddakanjerla village, located in the Sangareddy district of Telangana. The victims, aged between 17 and 22, were reportedly students of the Shireesha Memorial Charitable Trust, an organization that provides shelter for orphaned children.

The incident occurred at Neredu Cheruvu when the students entered the water and were unable to swim. While some attempted to rescue one another, all six succumbed to the water. Local residents assisted in the initial rescue efforts before the victims were transported to a hospital, where they were declared dead.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Minister for Women and Child Welfare Seethakka expressed deep condolences to the families. The Chief Minister has directed district administration to provide support to the bereaved and instructed officials to implement stricter safety precautions during future immersion events to prevent similar tragedies.
