Seven killed in A66 collision involving police vehicle FAST-MOVING

Seven people, including two police officers, were killed in a head-on collision on the A66 near Middlesbrough in northeast England. The incident occurred at approximately 3:39 am on a Saturday in the South Bank area.

According to Cleveland Police, the crash involved a marked police vehicle and a Volkswagen Passat that was traveling the wrong way down the dual carriageway. The collision followed a police pursuit of a vehicle deemed suspicious. All occupants of both vehicles died at the scene.

The two officers killed have been identified as PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough. The North East Ambulance Service dispatched 14 units to the scene, including specialist paramedics and a doctor, but was unable to save any of the victims.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a mandatory investigation into the circumstances of the crash and the preceding pursuit. The A66 remains closed in both directions between Normanby Road and Church Lane in Eston to facilitate ongoing investigations.
