Multiple fires reported in Tarakan and Wajo
Several fire incidents have been reported in Tarakan, Indonesia, and Wajo, Indonesia. In Tarakan, two hectares of shrubland at Pantai Amal burned over two days. Local authorities, including the BPBD, TNI AL, and PMI, responded to the blaze, which was reportedly caused by land clearing through burning. While no casualties were reported in the Pantai Amal incident, thick smoke posed potential health risks. Additionally, a residential fire occurred in Juata Laut, affecting one house, though the cause remains unknown. Firefighters in Tarakan noted that high-altitude plantation areas present challenges due to a lack of natural water sources.
In Wajo, South Sulawesi, a fire destroyed two houses in Kelurahan Tancung on November 1. One resident sustained burns to the face and arms while attempting to rescue belongings. The fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, resulted in material losses estimated in the hundreds of millions of rupiah. Local fire departments deployed four units to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent properties. Police are currently investigating the exact cause of the blaze.
