Multiple myeloma patients advocate for timely treatment access

In observance of World Myeloma Day, health advocates and legislative bodies in Argentina and Mexico are highlighting the challenges faced by patients with multiple myeloma.

In Argentina, the Fundación Argentina de Mieloma (FAM) has called for improved administrative processes to ensure timely access to treatments. While medical advancements offer new hope, the foundation reports that delays in the authorization and provision of medications hinder the continuity of care for patients. FAM is advocating for better communication between medical teams, funders, and patients to bridge these gaps.

In Mexico, the Senate illuminated its facilities in burgundy to raise awareness about the need for timely diagnosis and treatment. Senator Emmanuel Reyes Carmona emphasized the complexity of the disease, noting that many patients suffer from anemia, bone pain, and renal dysfunction during the diagnostic phase. The Mexican scientific community has recently published the 'Consenso Mexicano en Mieloma Múltiple 2026' to standardize therapeutic approaches and reduce gaps in care, particularly for those without social security.
