Multiple traffic accidents reported in Mérida and Kanasín
A series of traffic incidents occurred during the early hours of Wednesday in the Mérida and Kanasín metropolitan areas, resulting in overturned vehicles, a car fire, and injuries.
In Kanasín, a commercial truck pulling two trailers loaded with approximately 5,000 live chickens overturned on the old highway to Acanceh. The driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the cargo to spill across the road. Authorities intervened to prevent looting, and most of the surviving poultry was recovered before a crane cleared the wreckage.
On the Mérida Periférico, a Suzuki Swift overturned after the driver allegedly fell asleep and struck a concrete sign base. The driver, who showed signs of alcohol intoxication, was hospitalized with a suspected wrist fracture and abdominal pain.
Additionally, a Nissan Tsuru caught fire on 20th Street in the Petcanché neighborhood of Mérida. The driver escaped without injury, but the vehicle was destroyed by the flames. Local police and firefighters responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze and inspect the area for safety.
