Multiply Labs raises $75 million to scale robotic biomanufacturing
Multiply Labs has secured $75 million in Series B financing to scale its robotic manufacturing platform designed for advanced medicines. The funding round, led by Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong and NantWorks, brings the company’s total funding to over $100 million since its inception in 2016.
New investors in this round include AstraZeneca, Lingotto, Teradyne, and Strange Ventures. Returning investors include Casdin Capital, Lux Capital, Fifty Years, Ora Global, and Founders Fund. The company intends to use the capital to expand manufacturing capacity, accelerate its product roadmap, and grow its engineering, regulatory, and commercial teams.
Multiply Labs develops robotic clusters that automate complex biologics manufacturing processes, such as cell and gene therapies, antibodies, viral vectors, and mRNA. The company claims its systems can reduce the cost per dose by 74% and provide up to 100 times the throughput of manual manufacturing. These robotic clusters are designed to integrate with existing instruments and processes without requiring new facilities or changes to validated production practices. Unlike contract manufacturing services, Multiply Labs provides a platform that pharmaceutical companies own and operate directly.
