Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project reaches 80% completion

Construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor is approximately 80 percent complete. The project, managed by Indian Railways and the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), aims to launch its first phase of service in 2027, likely starting with the Surat-Bilimora or Surat-Vapi sections.

The 508-kilometer corridor will feature 12 stations across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. To meet diverse passenger needs, authorities plan to operate two categories of service: ‘Rapid Bullet Trains’ and ‘Local Bullet Trains.’

While the project initially relies on Japanese Shinkansen technology, India is developing indigenous capabilities. Indian Railways and BEML are currently preparing an 8-coach trainset using B28 coaches for initial trials. Furthermore, there are plans to introduce an ‘E10 Made in India’ bullet train capable of speeds up to 350 km/h by 2030.
