Mumbai Airport cocaine smuggling attempt foiled by DRI

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted a Zambian national at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai for attempting to smuggle cocaine. The individual, who traveled from Freetown, Sierra Leone, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was suspected of acting as a human carrier.

During a medical examination, the passenger expelled 11 capsules containing approximately 190 grams of cocaine. The seized substance is valued at roughly ₹1 crore in the international illicit market. The individual was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, as authorities investigate the broader trafficking network.
