Mumbai Central Railway services disrupted by technical failures
Major disruptions hit Mumbai’s Central Railway suburban network on Monday, causing significant hardship for thousands of commuters. The chaos began around 9:23 am following an overhead equipment (OHE) wire snag between Thane and Mulund. This was compounded by a signaling system failure between Kanjurmarg and Bhandup, reportedly caused by a fire in a relay room at Kanjurmarg station.
The technical issues led to several hours of service halts, forcing passengers to disembark and walk along tracks or rely on buses and taxis. While services were restored by the evening, the disruptions affected both suburban and long-distance trains.
Amid the chaos, a 21-year-old man, identified as Sahil Thite, was killed after being struck by an air-conditioned local train at Bhandup station. Officials reported that the deceased was attempting to cross the tracks from platform 4 to reach another platform when the accident occurred.
