Mumbai community initiatives focus on waste management after Ganesh Chaturthi

Following the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities in Mumbai, various community initiatives focused on waste management and environmental restoration.

In Parel, Coca-Cola India, HCCB, and street artists created a ‘Waste to Wonder’ art installation at Parel Cha Raja. The live installation utilized more than 45,000 discarded bottle caps to depict traditional performers, aiming to promote awareness regarding responsible waste disposal and the creative reuse of materials.

Simultaneously, over 150 students from K. P. B. Hinduja College organized a post-Visarjan clean-up drive at Dadar Chowpatty Beach. Working alongside the University of Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and the Coastal Guard, volunteers collected and segregated debris, including plastic, cloth, and floral offerings, to mitigate the impact of festival waste on marine ecosystems.
