Mumbai Cricket Association implements equal pay for men and women

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has become the first state governing body in India to implement equal pay parity for its men’s and women’s domestic players. The new contract system, approved for the 2026-27 season, provides annual retainers to 22 players—comprising 14 men and 8 women—to ensure financial security for those without central BCCI contracts.

Under the new model, players are categorized into three identical salary tiers regardless of gender: Grade A players receive Rs. 12 lakh, Grade B receive Rs. 8 lakh, and Grade C receive Rs. 6 lakh. Notable Grade A recipients include Siddhesh Lad, Shams Mulani, Humaira Kazi, and Vrushali Bhagat. In addition to these retainers, players will receive match fees, daily allowances, and performance-based incentives.

Furthermore, the MCA has established a scholarship fund in honor of Ajinkya Rahane to support grassroots cricket following his retirement. The fund has reportedly received contributions from former president Sharad Pawar.
