Mumbai developer creates nostalgic website recreating Indian barbershop experience

Yash Bhardwaj, a resident of Mumbai, has created a website titled 'Saloon' designed to evoke nostalgia for traditional Indian barbershops. The digital experience features a curated collection of music commonly played in local neighborhood salons during the 1990s, including hits from artists like Kumar Sanu and composers such as Nadeem-Shravan.

Bhardwaj shared a screen recording of the website on X (formerly Twitter), noting that the project aims to recreate the atmosphere of an era when haircuts were inexpensive and the background music was a soul-soothing part of the experience. The post gained significant traction, garnering over 700,000 views. Many users responded emotionally, stating the website reminded them of their childhood and hometowns. The project also drew a reaction from Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma.
