Mumbai enhances healthcare access via digital tools and scheme visibility

Authorities in Mumbai are implementing new measures to improve the accessibility and digitalization of public healthcare services. During a review meeting at a BMC hospital, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav emphasized the need to increase the visibility of central health schemes to ensure they reach needy patients. He directed that information regarding central schemes and reserved beds in charitable hospitals for economically weaker sections be clearly displayed in prominent locations.

To modernize service delivery, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched ‘Vaidya AI’, an AI-based WhatsApp chatbot developed in collaboration with Fractal Analytics Limited. Launched on August 14, 2026, the chatbot allows citizens to find nearby hospitals, health centers, and available medical services via the number 9892993368. The tool also provides information on central and state government health schemes and allows users to provide feedback.

Additionally, Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde has directed that Ayushman cardholders should not be required to present additional identification or documents for treatment in BMC hospitals. Other discussed initiatives include the expansion of Jan Aushadhi Kendras, proton therapy centers, AI-based cancer screening, and enhanced mental health services for women.
