Mumbai faces rising costs, water cuts, and transport shifts

Mumbai is experiencing several administrative and economic shifts. The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested a junior engineer and a worker from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000. Additionally, the BMC has announced that a 10 percent water cut will continue until mid-September due to weak monsoon forecasts, despite current water stocks being sufficient for over nine months.

In transport developments, a new daily express train service was launched between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Sawantwadi Road, flagged off by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is conducting a feasibility study on operating conductor-less buses on select routes to reduce manpower costs and implement digital ticketing. State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik emphasized that the corporation must find new revenue streams and improve efficiency rather than relying solely on fare hikes.

Residents are also facing increased living costs, with rising prices for milk, CNG, and auto-taxi fares reported as of September 1st.
