Mumbai ferry rescue: 38 people saved after engine failure

A ferry named Anwari experienced an engine failure in the Arabian Sea near the Gateway of India in Mumbai on Thursday night. The vessel, which was conducting half-hour sea excursions, stalled approximately 1.5 nautical miles off the coast around 8:30 PM.

The ferry was carrying 34 passengers and four crew members. Following an alert to the police control room, Mumbai police coordinated with nearby vessel operators. The excursion boat Azad Hind arrived at the scene and successfully towed the Anwari back to Jetty no. 2 at the Gateway of India by 9:30 PM.

All 38 individuals were brought ashore safely without any reported injuries. Authorities have launched an inquiry into the technical fault and will examine the ferry’s safety standards and fitness.
