Mumbai gymnastics coach booked under POCSO Act

Ganesh Devarukhar, a 45-year-old gymnastics coach and recipient of the prestigious Dronacharya Award from President Droupadi Murmu, has been booked under the POCSO Act in Mumbai.

A 16-year-old student filed a complaint at the Vile Parle police station, alleging that the coach attempted to sexually assault her. According to the FIR, the coach contacted the minor via WhatsApp, asking her to meet him at the gymnasium if she was free.

Upon arriving at the gym, the victim reported that the coach was alone and instructed her to bring his slippers inside and lock the door from the inside. The victim alleged that an attempt at sexual exploitation followed. When she tried to leave, the coach reportedly told her that 'whatever happened should remain between us'. The matter is currently under investigation by the Mumbai Police.
