Rohit Sharma potentially returns to Mumbai Indians captaincy

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has advocated for Rohit Sharma to return as the captain of the Mumbai Indians for the 2027 IPL season. This suggestion comes amid reports that Hardik Pandya may leave the franchise, which would necessitate a new leadership structure before the upcoming mega auction.

Ashwin noted that the combination of Rohit Sharma and the newly appointed head coach, Kieron Pollard, could be highly effective for the team. He suggested that Sharma's experience would be vital in stabilizing the squad during the short period leading up to the auction. Ashwin also expressed skepticism regarding Suryakumar Yadav's suitability for the role at this time, citing the need for experienced leadership to address current team challenges.
