Mumbai Indians urged to target Sushma Verma in WPL 2027 auction
Former Indian cricketer Reema Malhotra has recommended that Mumbai Indians target wicketkeeper-batter Sushma Verma during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction to address gaps in their lineup. Following a season where the franchise missed the playoffs, the team seeks to stabilize its opening combination and replace the wicketkeeping services lost with the departure of G Kamalini.
Malhotra cited Verma’s strong domestic performances and her success in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League as key reasons for the recommendation. The Mumbai Indians, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, have retained 11 players and will enter the auction in Kochi on October 28 with a purse of Rs 1 crore.
In addition to the search for an opener, Malhotra noted the need to strengthen the spin department following the release of Saika Ishaque. She also suggested the team consider Shweta Sehrawat as a dynamic batting option and emphasized the importance of acquiring an Indian fast bowler to support Tara Norris. Furthermore, Malhotra expressed support for all-rounder Amanjot Kaur, who is currently recovering from a back injury.
